Rotorua (1hr 35min drive):
Just a short drive away is the beautiful lake side city of Rotorua. Visit the Redwood forest and the Blue and Green lakes, explore the thermal mud pools and geysers, take a ride up the gondola and luge your way down, or partake in any of the many adventure activities on offer. Tongariro Crossing (2hrs 19min drive):
Thought of as the best one day tramps in New Zealand (and often ranked in the top 10 in the world), this 19.4 kilometer trek over Tongariro in the Central Plateau is a must do. Jill has completed the tramp numerous times, and is more than willing to share her tips to making the most of the experience.
